About Thomas Doherty

Thomas Doherty teaches Environmental and Counseling Psychology at the Lewis & Clark College and Graduate School. He has provided talks on behavior change and motivation to groups including the Association of Oregon RecyclersThe Natural Step Network, and the New Season's Markets Green Teams. Thomas has collaborated with innovators like the R. Bruer Company to create the next wave of environmentally responsible and profitable businesses. Thomas' work has been featured in media such as the Oregonian, the New York Times, Common Ground and the Monitor on Psychology.

 

 

 

Consultation Example: Friends of the Earth & Psychologists for Social Responsibility (PsySR) Strategy Session,  Washington, D.C. September 23-24, 2010

On September 23-24, 2010, nearly two-dozen activists and psychologists gathered at the offices of Friends of the Earth in Washington, D.C., to explore how to productively apply research and insights from psychology in environmental and social campaigns and communications. The goal: to inspire and empower real, systemic change at every level.

Thomas presented his talk, "Master of Two Worlds: Psychology Tools for Agents of Change" and was included in the a Summary Report of the workshop.

Thomas spoke at the Oregon Natural Step Network’s fall breakfast series on the topic of maintaining motivation and inspiration.  His talk “Master of Two Worlds” uses the Hero’s Journey metaphor to describe how innovators and change agents can maintain their vision and avoid burnout amid the challenges of daily life and work.
